Did you know that both gallstones and gallbladder symptoms are more common among women. The good news is that gallstones are not inevitable. But, how do you know if you are at risk? And, what can you do to avoid developing gallbladder problems?
As Dr. Oz says, being a woman in your reproductive years, being overweight and around the age of forty are all factors that increase your risk for developing gallbladder symptoms. Both being on birth control pills or other hormone medications and being pregnant is shown to be risk factors for developing gallstones.
If you fit into one or more of these categories, do not despair! You can be proactive in keeping you and your gallbladder in good health.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Include lots of fiber in your diet.
- If you need to lose weight, do it gradually.
- Avoid trans-fats and refined cooking oils.
- Include enough omega-3 fats sources in your diet.
