Do you get frequent stomach upset?

Stomach pain after meals, nausea, indigestion and bloating are all symptoms that tend to get explained away by “I ate too much” or “I have a sensitive stomach”.

But these are the exact symptoms that indicate early stage gallbladder problems.

Unnecessary Surgery

Surgery to remove the gallbladder is the #3 most common surgery in the US. According to a study published in 2013 gallbladder surgery “has dramatically increased, sometimes resulting in over-treatment.”

The researchers looked at records of 831 people who had gallbladder surgery between 1999 and 2008. They found that 1 out of 5 patients was operated on with no indications for surgery.

According to Dr. Ronald Hoffman, renowned complementary medicine practitioner, gallbladder issues can be successfully addressed with diet and supplements.

Hormones Increase Risk

The risk factors for gallbladder symptoms are often summarized by five blunt descriptors called the five F’s that every doctor learns: fat, female, fertile, fair-skinned, and over forty.

Women who are on estrogen replacement, or any type of birth control hormones, are at greater risk.

Just because you are at risk does not mean you need to have surgery.  Functional Nutrition is a natural approach to health care that focuses on improving the function of the whole body, rather than removing organs to reduce symptoms.

Dr. Marina Rose, of Los Altos, CA, recognizes that there are underlying causes of gallbladder symptoms like stress, diet, food allergies and hormones. Dr. Rose helps people with gallbladder symptoms in and around San Francisco, CA.

    1. Yes, about 75% of all gallbladder surgeries are on women. Women are at higher risk if they are on, or have been on any hormones. The key to avoid surgery is addressing early symptoms with diet and supplements.
